Castle :)

Okay so you all know that I like watching TV [I mentioned it in two posts and "About Me", so if you still don't know, you're kinda dumb :)]. I especially love the shows on Star World. Well, one such show is Castle. Here's a quick description, courtesy Wikipedia : Castle follows Nathan Fillon as Richard Castle, a famous mystery novelist who has killed off his main character in his book series and has writer's block. Castle is called in to help the NYPD solve a copy-cat murder based on one of his novels. Stana Katic stars opposite as the determined detective Kate Beckett. Castle, who becomes interested in Beckett as a potential character for a new book series, uses his contacts and receives permission to continue accompanying Beckett while investigating cases. Castle decides to use Beckett as the model for the main character of his next book series, starring "Nikki Heat". Beckett, an avid reader of Castle's books, is initially disapproving of having Castle shadow her on her cases, but later warms up and recognizes Castle as a useful resource in solving crimes. While technically a drama series, Castle also features comedy and romantic tension.

I really like the logo. See how the'A' looks as though it's been stabbed by a pen? And how the ink looks like blood? And in the background there is the city of NY? It captures two elements of the show- Murder and Writing.

Well, last night they showed the finale episode of the second season. Ah! It seems like yesterday, when I watched the first episode! For a finale episode, the case they were solving was quite interesting. It involved "two affairs and a loveless marriage" and a murder fueled by a jealous husband who's wife loved someone else. The moral of the episode was "Say what you really feel when the time is right, otherwise, things end up pretty messy". And when Kate realises this she figures out her feelings for Castle. She breaks up with her beau, Demming and is about to confess her love to Castle at a farewell party thrown for him by the homocide dept, coz that case was going to be his last one for some amount of time. Just when she's getting to the important part, she is interrupted to by his ex-wife. Apparently, he and she "reconnected" and so they were going to spend the summer in Hamptons (wherever that is!!). So obviously, Kate just shuts up and their colleagues who are secretly watching them, feel sad and shake their head, coz they were so sure that Kate and Castle would end up together. Even I felt quite bad for her! I have a habit of putting myself in other people's position. So, I was thinking, how would I have felt, had I been her?? God!! I would have felt absolutely crappy! And it's ironic because the previous episode had ended with Castle looking all morose when he saw Kate and Demming "koochie-kooing". Yes, even he liked her, but didn't say anything. And Kate was initially scared as she believed that it wouldn't mean anything to him and it wouldn't last long. But when she realised that he probably felt the same way, she was going to tell him...but it was too late! sigh! Okay, I know it's just a Tv show and sometime or the other they will end up together. But still!
Humph! Hopefully when the next season starts things will be better! Till, then, I think I'm  really gonna miss Castle! :)

The final countdown...

Well, this is the last week of my vacations. My homework is over (finally!) and i shall display it over here soon. You know, when we have school we complain and wonder "When will the goddamn holidays start?" and when are, say, a fortnight into our vacations we say "When will school start? Im so bored!" And  now that school is actually about to start, I have mixed reactions. I mean yeah, I'll get to see all my friends again but I'll have to wake up at 6:15 am daily (the very thought makes me want to puke! aargh!). And it'll be SO hard to watch the WC matches once school starts coz' the good ones are generally late at night! And it's just that, once school starts you can't really relax anymore and there won't be any break, something or the other will keep you on your feet! Sure, people say that Class 11 is for masti and no one really studies, but since I am a half geek, my conscience will make sure I work hard.  But yes, there are bound to be some new admissions as well. Its always exciting to have a new student in the class! However, we have a Math test just the day after our school reopens. Sigh!! So, you know what i mean right? Its just that once school starts, it just keeps on going on and on and on and on....yeah we get weekends, but they are full of homework and tuition! There was this book I read sometime in the distant past, which asked its readers 'This or That' questions; so one was- 'Would you rather have six months school-six months vacation or four day long weekends?' I selected the latter. I really think that that is the only way to survive this prolonged academic session- Longer weekends! Weekends are too short and some schools even have school on saturdays. Tisk Tisk! What injustice! So I say, make Friday a weekend day too! Who's with me? :)

FIFA- Football Is Frikin' Awesome!

Okay, so you know when it's time for FIFA. A sort of frenzy begins. Your friend's facebook statuses are about it, some people start countdowns, some talk about the anthems (speaking of which, aren't they really catchy??) and some say things like "Germany, you better win" or "USA die, die, die". All of a sudden, ads on the telly are somehow connected to football and so on.

There are basically three responses people tend to have about the football world cup. One is sheer excitement, these come from people who adore the sport. They colour their faces to resemble their fave team's jersey and they can discuss a match for hours and scrutinize every aspect of the game. Second is nonchalance. These people dont really care about football. Yeah, football world cup. So what? And the third is a lukewarm response. These people tend like some part of it, like maybe, the opening ceremony, or the concert or some matches. And yes, there are some people who pretend to like football, but dont really enjoy it.

Uhhh...Honestly, I fall in between the first and second response. I'm not a football fanatic, but, I do, take some amount of interest in the game. I cheer for teams, hum the anthems in my head, watch whatever match i can, groan and say "ooooo" when someone closely misses a goal and exclaim "Oh wow" whenever there's a cool save or pass and scream "Foul Foul" whenever required. Hey, have you ever seen how excited people in the stands get when they realise that they're on the big screen? If not, see it next time, it's fuun :)! I don't really have any favourites. I know ardent football fans will insist that only if you root for some team can you actually enjoy a match. But, seriously, I've learnt a lesson from the IPL. I'm a big DelhiDarevils fan, but as we all know, they never perform very well. And when they lose and are kicked out, I lose interest in the whole thing. That's not something I want to do for the FIFA. So, I see matches with a neutral perspective. Only thing, I don't want USA to win, that's all!

So yeah on the whole, I really enjoy sitting back, with a drink in one hand and chips in my other hand, and watching a match on a big screen with my family and getting completely involved in the game and it's spirit and charm. You guys should also try it sometimes :)

Was reading that as hard as it was for me to write it? I hope not! So, yeah, my hindi sucks! Even though I left hindi in class 9 (THANK GOD!), I still use it daily while talking to friends, autodrivers, shopkeepers and so on. Although my hindi is better than my mom's and I don't have much of an accent unlike some bengali babus, my hindi is quite bad. Why this sudden declaration? Well, last night, I was writing down some instructions at home in hindi for this guy who didn't know english but could read hindi. While doing the same, I realised that I had forgotten some things like what "ch" and "dh" looks like. With my mom staring at me, rolling her eyes(to the best of her capabilities, she cant do an effective eye roll!), I quietly took out this book which had the basics of hindi in it and I copied the letters. Yeah, true story.

I have never scored very well in hindi. Infact it has often pulled my aggregate down. In class 3, I got an overall grade of B+ because of it, and hence couldn't become a scholar that year. I have never failed an exam (touchwood) except once in class 2, when I failed in a test in hindi. My teacher, taking pity on me, changed that E to a D-. I knew, though, that I actually deserved an E. But, yes, since then, I  haven't ever gotten less than a B- in hindi!

Although I still fumble while speaking hindi and my grasp of the language leaves a lot to be desired for and is often the butt of my friend's jokes, I have infact improved (No, seriously. I have....STOP laughing!).
Okay, so I dont feel like writing anymore. Whatever.  So, Anyway, अलविदा!

These are a few of my favourite things (to watch on TV)!

Okay, so, a year or two ago, my friend called me a couch potato. I disagreed with her. I wasn't fat, or slow, or anti social, or a hogger! But, lately, I've come to terms with the fact that yes, I am in fact, a couch potato!! I LOVE watching the telly and all sorts of programmes on it. The TV has taught me a lot and has improved my humor. It's also an awesome ice breaker, like "Hey,did you see that episode where he killed her and then ran away to Finland?" "Yeah, duh! I loved that episode" "Oh, me too. I'm Priyanka, by the way." See what I mean??
So, here's presenting a list of my fave things to watch on the idiot box (in order of preference). You should definitely give them a try! Or else, rot in hell forever!! MWAHAHAHA. Anyway, here's the list:
1) F.R.I.E.N.D.S- Do I need to explain my choice? No, right? But, anyway, here goes...The cast rocks, the plot rocks, and its damn funny. 'Nuff said. :)
2) BONES- This show is a crime fiction drama, sorta like Castle and Psych, only GAZILLION times better!! The crime solving is based on forensic science basically. The cases are very interesting and they keep you guessing till the end. The actors are great and even the supporting cast is given importance and screen space. Another cool thing about the show is the AMAZING chemistry shared between the two leading cast members, Booth and Brenan, or 'Bones', as the former affectionately calls the latter. Its somewhat physical, but they are emotionally connected too. Of course, they are oblivious to the fact that they love each other! That sucks and rocks at the same time. A total must-watch!
3) So You Think You Can Dance- This one's a reality show based on (you guessed it) DANCE! Normal, common people audition to be among the Top 20, and hence dance in front of a live studio audience and try to gain the viewer's support through votes. At the prelims, loads of weirdos turn up and it is loads of fun to watch them. lol . Like, there's this one guy called "Sex", who turns up each season but is never selected (Go figure!) The judges are funny and there is awesome variety on the show, from Jazz to Hip Hop, Contemporary to Salsa and even Bollywood!! Cool, huh?
4) Dare To Date- This is a hilarious show where two people go on a blind date on national tv. People who are completely different and have conflicting views are chosen. And in this case, NO, opposites do not attract. And the host, VJ Andy is very funny. Both of the contestants are weird, but one is invariably SO DAMN weird that the other's weirdness is overshadowed. Example of weirdness: Boy: "How did you like my mother?" Girl:"Oh! She has a very 'Coolie' nature!" WTH? The people who've come on the show are now [V] popular...Sankalp, Kusum, Mr. Delhi, Prince, Punjabi Shakira....I've heard season two is gonna come out too....If you are weird, then you know where to go! ;)
5) Hell's Kitchen- Another reality show where aspiring chefs compete to win their own restaurant. The judge is the world famous chef, Gordon Ramsay. The tasks they have to do are interesting alright, but one should watch this show for Ramsay. He loves to swear and his dialogues are more or less censored. He practically eats the contestants up, one by one. Great fun to watch!!
6) 90210, Castle, America's next top model
7) Movies- All types; old ones , new ones, funny ones, scary ones, tragic ones, romantic ones, silly ones....you get the drift, right?
8) Music videos- From the movies mentioned above
9) Cookery shows- Mostly of Kylie Kwong and Nigella.
10) Infomercials- Annai Bamboo, Air-O-Space, Proactive, Magic 123, True Cover, Zumba, Car Scratch remover, Slim and lift, Spy pen camera...You name it & and I've seen it!
