Creepy girl named Esther.

Okay so I just watched this movie called "The Orphan". It was creepy, which would explain why I was watching it on mute. (Alright! The real reason for that is that Im a scaredy cat!) But whateves. So basically, there's this couple that adopts this kid, Esther from this orphanage who's seems all well mannered and mature (You'll know why, later). Then she goes all psycho on them. You know the whole, killing pigeons, bashing people up with hammers...that sort of a thing? And the wife suspects there's something wrong with her, but the dad's all "Oooh. You're paranoid and you have a drinking problem". But things get really creepy when the girl puts on this strapless dress and wears make up and tries to seduce the dad. And she's about 9...or so they thought. Turns out, she's this 33 year old Russian woman with some dwarfism issue, and oh and, she has some falana disorder too and originally came from a mental asylum, not an orphanage. Talk about keeping secrets from your family, huh?
Okay I couldn't help thinking about the following things while watching the movie:

  • Firstly. She was bound to turn out to be odd and disturbed! I mean her name was Esther. Esther! Have you noticed how all the scary little girl movies have kids named stuff like Patricia and Morticia and well..Esther? No way they'll be named May or Rachel, nuh-uh!
  • And the parents just had to pick the lonely girl clad in black from the orphan..not one of the happy little girls running around and playing! Rookie mistake, if you ask me. (Not that Im saying that those girls arent nice or anything but well, in movies its best to go with the chirpy ones)
  • I dont like the whole group of thrillers and horror movies with creepy, scary kids, especially when they're girls! Although they've been around for a long time now..The Omen and The Exorcist and the recent ones like The Ring. They make you cautious and suspicious around seemingly cute and chubby little girls in pink frocks! Its like, when you're around them you just expect one of them to brandish a pair scissors and stab you repeatedly and stare at you in a freaky way and then burn your body (Hey! It could happen!)

Have you seen this one? What did you think?

  1. Hey I'm sitting in the computer room, and there's no one else here, the door's locked, but I can constantly hear somebody's 'Payal' ka awaaz. To be honest I got a little freaked out. Then I read this post, and I thought "What nonsense. Probably some rubbish Esther like girl trying to scare me. Well guess what Esther? You know what I think of you? You're a dwarf. Yes. A DWARF. Lilliput. Lilliput. Lilliput. Lilliput!'

  4. Okay, orphan s kinda funny in parts, the part zombie like little things, look kinda cute. But yes, it scares you out too. Especially the climax, so much blood. :(

  8. Hey! Ya I've seen The Orphan and yes it freaked me out..no matter how unrealistic it seems that the couple opted to adopt that expression-less girl, the movie was actually pretty good and the it was interesting right till the end.

The story itself creeped me out. I doubt if I'm ever going to gather the courage to watch it.
